The focus of these oil and/or acrylic paintings was to create textured layers in which various images could "emerge" spontaneously. If you gaze at the paintings awhile you will start to see exactly what I mean... you'll likely see faces, angels, beings, or other various “recognizable” images. What I do is to paint the "layered-environment" for these images to coalesce and resonate with the sub-conscious of the observer. This is a technique inspired from the Chilean master Roberto Matta. In the surrealist tradition, these (types of) paintings become 'gateways' to other imaginary worlds or dimensions of the psyche--both personal and collective. The paintings in this series demonstrate themes and approaches similar to what I am going for in the more recent Photo Light Paintings.
